The federal government has accumulated more new debt--$3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29)—during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury.

#2 - Wed Dec 29, 2010 2:12 AM ESTWhat the story doesn't tell you is that the amount of debt per person if you take the whole national debt in to account and that is $44,767 per person. If you then divide up the debt among only the taxpayers in this country you end up with a $125,933 tab.
Bottom line is that there simply isn't enough money in this country to pay it all off.
